Spokane Tribal Rangers and Parks Maintenance

Spokane Tribal Rangers and Parks Maintenance

Spokane Tribal Rangers duties include the Protection of people, property, wildlife, natural resources, cultural resource protection, conservation enforcement, and the sale of non-member Camping and Fishing permits,

2019 continued on trend with the High demand for outdoor recreation on Lake Roosevelt. Two large events, a fireworks show, and poker run bring thousands of visitors to tribal lands and waters each year. No major incidents to report occurred at either event due to a large law enforcement presence.

Year round Rangers educate visitors about the cultural protection on Lake Roosevelt. New signage and fencing has been placed in campgrounds to help reduce the number ARPA violations. Rangers currently operate two boats for patrol. A jet boat is used during the spring drawdown of the lake, and a more efficient boat is used as the lake level becomes stable.

When not patrolling the lake or campgrounds, rangers patrol the entire reservation for natural resource protection and conservation enforcement.

Parks maintenance preseason maintenance includes, painting, mowing, tree trimming, and other tasks needed to prepare 23 campgrounds for the busy summer season. During peak camping months the maintenance crew is picking up & hauling garbage, and doing routine maintenance on the campground and campground structures.

The Spokane Tribe of Indians vision is to achieve true sovereignty by attaining self-sufficiency. We will preserve and enhance our traditional values by living and teaching the inherent principles of respect, honor and integrity as embodied in our language and life-ways. We will develop strong leadership through education, accountability, experience and positive reinforcement.
