RATE OF PAY:                     $20.00 – $23.00 / PER HOUR

IN-HOUSE POSTING, OPEN TO CURRENT SOLID WASTE/UTILITIES/PUBLIC WORKS EMPLOYEES

 

INTRODUCTION:

Lead Assistant will assist with the day-to-day operations of the Utilities and Solid Waste Departments. The employee will assist the Utility Program Manager and oversee the Utility and Solid Waste crew members as necessary.  The employee will be required to perform some administrative duties and reports as assigned.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate heavy equipment including dump trucks, garbage trucks, skid steer, backhoe, dozers and snow plow trucks when needed.
  • Provide day-to-day written and oral reports as requested.
  • Preforms day-to-day maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
  • Supervise other employees when delegated to do so.
  • Assist other departments under the Public Works umbrella when needed.
  • Monitor day-to-day activities.
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies all hours and weekends.
  • Work with minimum supervision.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR POSITION:

  • Knowledge of heavy equipment repair and routine maintenance.
  • Knowledge in welding and fabrication.
  • Must have ability to comprehend and write reports related to the department.
  • Knowledge of the Spokane Tribes Utility and Solid Waste Programs responsibilities
  • Must be able to work with other departments as needed.

 

SUPERVISORY CONTROL:

  • Supervise the Utility and Sold Waste crew in the absence of the Utilities Manager.
  • Must be able to give directives when delegated, serve as second in chain of command.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in all kinds of environments, and may work with Hazardous materials
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License, and be tribally insurable.
  • This position is considered Safety/sensitive position and is subject to random alcohol/drug testing.
  • At time of employment must successfully clear a criminal background inquiry.

 

PREFERRED REQUISITES:

  • Experience in operating a skid steer and backhoe
  • The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 Technician Training for the disposal of appliances that contain regulated refrigerants
  • CDL License
