SALARY LEVEL:                $17.00  /PER HOUR

SUMMARY:

The Water & Fish Technician I will assist with stream bank stabilization projects, conduct/aid in stream habitat and fisheries surveys. The Technician will use computer programs, GPS units and other equipment needed to collect data, monitor stream habitat and water quality, prepare analysis, and complete other projects as assigned.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the NPS Project Manager in stream restoration projects by planting trees and shrubs, fencing, and working with heavy equipment.
  • Assist the NPS Project Manager in maintaining stream restoration projects by clearing invasive plant species, as well as watering and installing/maintaining protectors on trees and shrubs.
  • Collecting stream habitat and fish data using water flow meters, gathering water quality samples, collecting fish using backpack electrofishers, traps, etc.
  • Calibrating and using water quality instruments
  • Organizing and entering data into the computer on MS Excel or other programs
  • Working from and operating boats to collect fisheries and water quality data
  • Will be responsible for equipment/vehicle maintenance
  • Be able to locate specific locations on the ground using topographic maps
  • Other duties as assigned; which may include working with other related departments/ programs

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Physically able to carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in inclement weather and in streams
  • Must have a valid Washington State Drivers License, good driving record, and be Tribally insurable
  • Preferred experience with computers and GPS units
  • Ability to read and identify locations on topographical maps
  • Ability to take direction from supervisors, take initiative and complete work with little supervision
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, long days and potential overtime if needed.
