RATE OF PAY:            $15.00 / PER HOUR

INTRODUCTION:
The goal of the Tribal Language/Culture program is to revitalize the language, culture and history of the Spokane Tribe. Our main goal is to ensure that the language and culture are being passed down from generation to generation. The Research Specialist will assist the Tribal Language/Culture program in the efforts to preserve and revitalize the Spokane Language and Culture. The Research Specialist will work directly with the Curriculum Developer and the Teacher Trainer in the development of Language/Culture curriculum.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Research archived language/culture documents working with Curriculum Developer and Language Program Assistant
• Assist in indigenous curriculum development by compiling and documenting culture/language data from archives
• Share knowledge with Language Teachers, Trainees and Curriculum Developer
Assist Language Program Assistant in scanning, typing and inputting the documents onto a database

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR POSITION:
• Must be a positive role model
• Learn the Spokane language
• Knowledgeable of Spokane Tribal Culture
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills, will work respectfully with others
• Must be able to pass federal and Tribal required background checks
• Assist in Cultural Outings/Events as needed
• Assist as required during cultural outings to promote language and culture in
the community and outlying areas
• Work respectfully with all Language/Culture staff and other Elders

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must have a valid WA State Driver’s License, good driving record and be Tribally insurable
• Must work towards fluency in the Spokane Language, including speaking, reading, analyzing and interpreting.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills, will work respectfully with Elders and other
culturally knowledgeable people and students
• Must be able to pass required background checks

OTHER:
• High School Diploma or GED preferred
