TITLE:                             FULL-TIME SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

 DEPARTMENT:          HHS/NATIVE YOUTH COMMUNITY PROJECT

LOCATION:                   WELLPINIT, WA

STATUS:                         TEMPORARY, FULL-TIME, EXEMPT

RATE OF PAY:             $18.75/PER HOUR

SUPERVISOR:             NATIVE YOUTH COMMUNITY PROJECT DIRECTOR

CLOSING DATE:         OPEN UNTIL FILLED

 

INTRODUCTION:

Instructs students and facilitates their learning in the absence of the regular teacher.

Provides support services that is specialized to our students and is culturally responsive and

structured to fit Native American Learners.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in specially designed lesson plans.
  • Creates a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
  • Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned.
  • Maintains a professional appearance.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains reasonable rules of conduct which encourage self-discipline and responsibility.
  • Communicates effectively with parents on a regular basis.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
  • Deliver lesson that are specifically designed to provide culturally responsive content.
  • Work with other Native Youth Community Program staff to continually review and update lessons. Processes and incorporate tactics learned from ongoing professional development geared towards culturally responsive lessons to Native American students. Have a strong presence in offering social and emotional intervention and supports.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR POSITION:

  • Preferred knowledge of, and a background in Spokane Tribal culture, both traditional and contemporary (i.e. language, history, dance, foods, songs, and drumming).
  • Good classroom management skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Deliver lesson that are specifically designed to provide culturally responsive content.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid WA State Teaching certificate or WA Emergency Substitute certificate.
  • Associate of Arts Degree – Any subject
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Prior public school work experience preferred.
  • Must be willing to attend further training/travel as needed for the position

 

OTHER:

  • Temporary, Grant funded position through September 30 th, 2020
