INTRODUCTION:

The goal of the Tribal Language/Culture program is to revitalize the language, culture and history of the Spokane Tribe. Our main goal is to ensure that the language and culture are being passed down from generation to generation. The Computer Technologist will assist the efforts to revitalize the Spokane Language and Culture.  This position has limited funding which is anticipated to end within this fiscal year.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be familiar with various media files and how to edit/convert the files
  • Scan all original selected traditional stories and illustrations onto computer and into selected programs
  • Following procedures to archive the records appropriately                                       
  • Work with elders and other individuals to complete and ensure accuracy of traditional stories
  • Type accurately all hand-written documents in Spokane Salish and English                          
  • Recording and interviewing elders and other knowledgeable people as needed      
  • Ensure all documents are accurate and complete; good writing skills
  • Teach current staff on how to use the Story Teller Program 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION:

  • Able to work well with staff from the Language/Culture Department including other Tribal departments.
  • Able to work respectfully with Tribal Elders .
  • Have knowledge of or accept training to use the storyteller software; learn to edit and add data files to storyteller software.
  • Able to comply with firm set deadlines.
  • Knowledge of computer mage and sound editing software: i.e. Photoshop and Audacity -sound editing.
  • Knowledge of APS alphabet used by Tribal Language/Culture Program or be a quick learner.
  • Able to use PowerPoint, Word, and Excel software.
  • Complete computerized stories that are in progress. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required,  AA or BA preferred                                                  
  • Must be able to pass State and Federal Background checks. 
  • Knowledge of APS alphabet used by Tribal Language/Culture Program or be a quick learner.
  • Able to use MS programs efficiently; PowerPoint, Word, and Excel software.       
  • Experienced in using office equipment: scanners, copier, cameras, etc.
  • Able to work well with Elders.                                                                                  
  • Be task oriented, a self- starter with attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Must have artistic abilities.                                                                                                      
  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License and be Tribally insurable.
